Not in Vain

What a mess my house is with papers and books everywhere. I wonder sometimes about all that I do. It seems that it may be in vain. I really would rather not waste my life with doing, doing, doing and nothing coming from it.

Ah...but the reality is, the kids are learning and happy. They work hard, they play hard, they cry and laugh, they listen and they frustrate, they help out and they make messes, and then they sleep to awake for another day to do it all again. I know that life is that. It's making the ordinary extraordinary without concentrating on the spectacular or phenomenal.

I pray that the moments that we spend together will be extraordinary in being kind, being quick to fix what we see wrong in ourselves so that we all mature into better people, yes, even me. I know that this homeschooling journey that has become part of my life is not just for my kids or the community that we are a part of, it is a personal journey for me. I get to learn and grow and change to become a better me.

I'll clean up the papers and books as I can. I'll know that my doing is a work that needs to be done and be done well. I'll wait to see what all this will bring tomorrow, next year, and into the lives of my children.

Homeschooling 101

Planning is essential to success in homeschooling. Yesterday, I took out all the books that I hoped to use this year for my three children. It was fun seeing them all atop the table until I realized that I was missing one. I found one of the missing books today, but one is still in hiding. I hope it shows up by Monday when we will start our new school year.

I found a great new planner that I think will help me know what my kids are doing. They always seem to be in the know, but sometimes I am out of sync. So I hope that this will help. It is called the Well Planned Day. I have a companion one for my son who will begin his middle school venture this year called The Well Grounded Middle Schooler. I hope he likes it too.

Our history will be intense this year as we continue with Story of the World vol. 4. I printed out a timeline for us to do: 1800- 2000. I am going to supplement the material for my second grader so she can participate without being overwhelmed with the outlining and projects that the other two will undertake this year.

It almost makes me wish tomorrow was Monday; but no, I'll wait. I'll enjoy Friday with it's last tennis lesson of the summer and time with friends swimming afterwards.
